Sailor's valentines almost died out with the whaling industry in the 1880s, however 20 years ago, gallery-owner
Carolyn Walsh helped spearhead a resurgence in the nearly-forgotten craft. A product of Nantucket's maritime
heritage, sailor's valentines originated during the whaling era as a romantic token from the sea that homesick sailors
fashioned for their loved ones back home. Antique valentines are a sought-after collectible while a growing number of
artists continue the tradition, each adding a new dimension by virtue of their own particular styles.

Chin Manasmontri is a native of Thailand and has elevated this traditional folk craft to a new level of artistic excellence.
His carefully orchestrated geometric patterns provide the background for elaborately textural arrangements of tiny
shells and flowers.
